Jamaica Racing Commission

Horse racing is big business in Jamaica and the government has set up a Jamaica Racing Commission, whose task it is to oversee the regulation, functioning, transparency and standards relating to horse racing.

The primary roles of the Jamaica Racing Commission are the following:

• To introduce and implement, or to assist in or undertake the implementation of any scheme for the development of the Jamaican horse racing Industry.
• To regulate and control horse racing and the operation of racecourses in the island.
• To grant licenses and permits as required by virtue of the provisions of the Act.
• To recommend to the Minister the method of utilizing sums, under the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act, for assistance to breeders of horses and horse racing generally.
