Jamaica’s First Casino Is Coming: Opening Date, Resort Plans and Online Gambling

Jamaica’s imminent legal casino scene is moving from possibility to something rather more concrete. 

The island’s first casino licence is helping clear the way for a major gaming destination, tied to a wider tourism development.

When Will Jamaica's First Casino Open?

Jamaica’s first licensed casino is coming to the Princess Grand Jamaica Resort in Green Island, Hanover, on the island’s north coast. 

The trend-setting casino licence was awarded to Adamas Grand Casino Limited, marking the first time Jamaica has granted an igaming licence under its developing casino framework. 

The operator has indicated that it hopes to open the casino by December 2026, although it has until March 31, 2027, to satisfy the remaining regulatory requirements.

This is also not intended to be a standalone gambling venue. Jamaica’s Casino Gaming Act allows casinos only within approved integrated resort developments, tying casino gaming directly to the country’s tourism infrastructure.

What Could the Casino Mean for Jamaica?

For Jamaica, the casino is about more than adding gaming tables to a resort. Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett said the new offering could help attract higher-spending visitors while creating employment opportunities, including jobs requiring specialist training.

The first licence could also open the door for more resort developments. At least three additional integrated resort projects are reportedly considering casino operations, including a proposed Hard Rock development at Rose Hall. 

However, any future applicants will still have to meet Jamaica’s regulatory and due-diligence requirements. 

What About Online Gambling in Jamaica?

The arrival of a land-based casino does not mean Jamaica is starting from scratch when it comes to online gambling.

The Princess Grand opening will, however, add a new dimension to an existing gambling market, rather than creating one from the ground up.

Jamaican online players can already access an outstanding range of casino games, including slots and a variety of popular table games, including Caribbean versions of poker that are hugely popular on the island.
