Jamaicans who have been wondering when it was their turn for mega-jackpots, such as the United States Powerball or Europe's EuroMillions, have had their questions and prayers answered in the form of the new Super Lotto, launched at the beginning of September 2009.
What does this mean for me?
Played simultaneously in 8 different countries at the same time, Super Lotto takes the individual lotteries of each country and combines them into one, which for Jamaicans means that the jackpot starts at US$2 million or J$180million!
There are two weekly drawings, on Tuesday and Friday. Players choose five numbers from 1-35 as well as a Super Ball number, also from 1-35 for a total of six numbers. Prizes may only be claimed in the country of purchase.
The participating countries are in no particular order; Dominican Republic, Barbados, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Ma'arten, the US Virgin Islands, and of course, Jamaica.
Safe and Secure
Super Lotto, in Jamaica at least, is operated by listed gaming firm Supreme Venture Limited (SVL) which uses the GTECH technology platform.
SVL falls under the jurisdiction of the Jamaica Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC). They have been involved with their research and are satisfied that SVL has met all security and tax issues as well as having the ability to pay the full amount of prizes when won.
So players, pick your numbers and get ready to see the jackpot rise as Super Lotto gains momentum - you'll be sorry if you don't!
